Plenty of campers rely on internet to be able to work from the road. Whether you are using a cell connection or starlink for internet, the strength of the signal can vary depending on a number of factors. Some campground review websites include internet speeds as part of the review, but they only show it at the campground level. At a lot of campgrounds, especially really large ones, that's just not good enough. You could see different speeds from campsite to campsite.
That's why I created Campsite Internet. Now you can rate individual campsites to let others know if a certain carrier (or Starlink) has service at that site and the strength of the signal. If you're planning a trip, search for your campground and see how others have rated the specific site you want to book.
Hi! My name is Thomas and I am a software developer located in Washington state who loves camping and building websites. I've spent years tent camping and then in 2023 my wife and I bought our first RV, a 2019 Forest River Sonoma we named Shortstack. In 2022 I launched CamperAlerts.com to help campers find last minute campsites by monitoring reservation sites for cancellations.
I work remotely as a software developer so once we got the RV we realized we could plan longer trips without me having to take time off of work. The most important part of that was making sure I was able to have an internet connection for my job. I quickly discovered there was no good way to find out if a specific campsite was good for cell connections or clear enough for a Starlink connection.
Other campground review sites let users rate the internet speed of a campground. But if part of the campground has a good signal and the rest has no signal, that review is not very useful. That's where the idea for Campsite Internet was born. Finally there is a way to find out if a specific campsite has an internet connection that will work for your needs.
The campground data comes from our sister site, CamperAlerts.com. Currently you can search campgrounds that are managed by the following reservation sites:
Currently you can rate or view ratings for all 4 major US cell carriers and Starlink:
Nothing! Using Campsite Internet to view ratings or add your own is 100% free.
The most important part of this site is ensuring that the ratings are accurate ratings from actual campers who stayed at the campsite. By requiring an account to rate a campsite I can make sure that each rating is unique and that a user can't rate the same site multiple times. It also helps me ensure a user can't rate campsites they haven't actually visited. I will never sell your information or use it for anything other than to send you information about your account.
From the home page of the website you can search for the name of a campground or park and click on the result to go to the campground page. That page shows every campsite with average ratings for each of the carriers. On the left side of the campground page click the "Add Your Rating" button. A form will pop up that lets you choose the campsite, carrier, and rating. It's that simple!
I frequently update the system with the latest information from each reservation system. Sometimes the info I get from those systems can be delayed so new or updated campgrounds may not show up immediately. If you can't find a campground that you know exists, email hello@campsiteinternet.com with the name of the campground, where it's located, what reservation system it uses, and the park or forest it's located in (if applicable). I'll research and if it's a campground I am able to monitor I will get it added.
